Dr David Solnet comes to UQ directly from industry, most recently from Brett's Wharf in Brisbane where he served as the general manager for five years. Prior to arriving in Australia, David had been involved in the restaurant/club industry since 1985 - with his last USA position with Brinker International, a large US-based restaurant company, where he worked the management teams for a number of the company's Italian Restaurants.

In addition to his accomplished career in the hospitality industry, David continues to work as an advisor to a number of high-profile hospitality organisations in Southeast Queensland. His consulting work focuses on service quality, the development of performance-based incentive programs and organizational reviews.

David holds a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management from Florida International University in Miami, Florida, USA (graduated Summa Cum Laude). He also holds a Master of Science in Hotel and Food Service Management from the same university.

David enjoys close alliances with many local businesses, government agencies and industry peak bodies such as the Restaurant and Caterers Association, Queensland. His primary role at UQ is the development and maintenance of strong industry contacts for the university and the development of a strategic 'executive shadow" program that will align with the School's professional development class.

David completed his PhD research in 2006. His doctoral research explored employee attitudes and service quality within the context of hotel rebrandings.
